Undergraduate Programs

The Department of History & Political Science seeks to provide a high-quality undergraduate experience coupled with individualized advising and mentoring.

You'll take classes with students who are highly motivated and academically talented in a challenging academic environment. Our class sizes are small, so you'll receive individual attention and be an active participant in classroom discussions.

Upon graduation, you'll be well-prepared for a variety of careers. Our prelaw graduates are extremely successful in obtaining placements at leading law schools. Others hold positions as teachers, historians, politicians, school administrators, archivists, journalists, ministers, and librarians. We also have graduates who have gone on to careers in higher education, state and local government, business, the armed forces, criminal justice, the arts, and medicine.

Our department offers three field majors - History, Political Science, and International Relations - and a Social Studies Teaching major covering History, Government, and Geography. We also offer minors in History, Political Science, and International Relations. Many of our students major in one field and minor in another within the department, or double-major in two areas. All of our majors, regardless of field, take a core sequence in World History:

  • HIST-101/201: World History to 1700
  • HIST-102/202: World History since 1700
