Dr. Sondhaus' books include Navies in Modern World History  (Reaktion Books, UK, 2004); Navies of Europe, 1815-2002. (Longman, 2002); Naval Warfare, 1815-1914  (Routledge, 2001); Franz Conrad von Hötzendorf: Architect of the Apocalypse  (Brill, 2000); Preparing for Weltpolitik: German Sea Power before the Tirpitz Era  (Naval Institute Press, 1997); and two volumes on the Austrian navy. He has published numerous articles in academic journals, including German Studies Review, International History Review, Journal of Military History, East European Quarterly, and the Austrian History Yearbook.
