The goal of the Department of History and Political Science is to assist students in developing global consciousness, historical perspective, mature judgment on current and timeless issues, and expansive cultural literacy. Our courses provide students with the opportunity to prepare for advanced study in history, political science, international relations, and law while developing deep insights and valuable skills for an increasingly globalized marketplace.
We believe that only through the scholarly and scientific study of the past and present can we create the knowledge and judgment necessary to play a critical role in a future of rapid technological progress, political transformation, and social reorganization. The courses in the Department of History & Political Science are designed to challenge conventional thought in order to develop the future diplomats, educators, lawyers, and academics that will engage actively, creatively, and humanely with the world.
We are pleased to welcome Senator Richard Lugar as a Distinguished Professor of Political Science & International Relations. Senator Lugar will give three lectures at UIndy each year. In addition, through the Lugar Academy, students will be able to apply for a Washington term, which will include a highly selective internship.
